First of all I was disappointed that the holes were as big as they are, gnats and other small insects can go through. My mare wore it one day and had destroyed it that same day. So no will not recommend it

4-star because I've had to do some sewing for a more custom fit and coverage....definite design flaws. I even expanded the sheath cup. This is the best thing that I purchased that keeps flies out of the sheath area. This summer flies were brutal and attracted to my boy's sheath. They laid their eggs and painful/itchy maggots resulted on several occasions. Sadly, the vet had no solutions but to "try this or that". My boy is a Rocky gelding (small head and average body) and normally wears a size 70" winter blanket. The small size belly guard was a tad tight but I modified it to fit...expanded elastic, etc. The medium size was a bit too big so more nip and tucks of fabric, but we use this larger belly guard to trail ride as we can put the saddle pad under the straps; and then the saddle on top...no fabric rides up or pulls on his sheath or thighs. The best modifications I made were to the back straps over his hind end. Where they form an "H" above the butt and over the hips, I sewed the two pieces of fabric into place in the elastic. In the center of the top "H", I sewed a 24" elastic strap with a loop for the over the shoulder straps to criss-cross into - keeps them in place. My suggestion is to buy it but keep an open mind of how you might improve it with some hand sewing. I made a couple of Youtube videos under "cashel belly guard fly protection" showing my easy fixes. Best of luck! This product is our suit of armor against invading bugs.

I like it but I had to make modifications at the "H" section. Basically, I sewed it in place and then added a 24" piece of elastic with a loop to connect it to the shoulder straps at the weathers. Everything stays on better and helps me to put it on him alone. My Rocky gelding is 15H. Normally he wears a 70" blanket so I ordered the small. I made some modifications but the sheath cup doesn't fit, so I ordered a 2nd sheet - a medium. Once again I made some modifications to make it fit better and stay in place...a little nip and tuck with the material. So far it is working out. We even proved we can ride with it on, and that he can pee and roll in it. This summer we had a miserable sheath problem the Vet can't find a solution to (allergy????)....the flies and maggots were a constant battle. The Cashel Sheath Protector with Fly Protection is working out so far and it has been 1-month. I do remove it at night and wash it...just use it in the day when the flies are out. I'm hopeful that this will help the sheath heal.

I was so excited when I found this product! I have a gelding that the flies are just eating his under belly something fierce and no amount of fly spray or swat or anything has deterred them from eating him bloody raw. So I ordered this flight sheet for his belly and was very excited when I got it. And very disappointed when I had it on him for about a day and it won’t stay up over his hips I’m very frustrated . It’s a great concept but Poor design. The way that it comes over the hips does not work to stay up when he moves it slides down and pretty soon he’s got his “pants around his ankles“.

A little confusing trying to figure out how to put on. I decided the "band holder" was put on the wrong to bands. It has only been on my mare for two days. So far so good. The extra pocket for the penis is a little strange looking on my mare but I think it will do the job.

It is the only thing I have found to protect my horse from being bitten by the noseeums. However, I have to modify it significantly to keep it on under his blanket. It will not stay on the way it is currently designed. Also the space for the horses penis is insufficient I need to cut an opening otherwise his urine collects on his underbelly especially when shedding and his skin gets extremely irritated.

Bought 3 of these. Ingenious idea! However, the 1st day one of my mares shredded hers, I think I didn't adjust it correctly, (wasn't snug enough) Wish they came in mare/gelding option. The "hooter" part for a gelding kind of hangs down on my mare - that's what she caught when rolling & ripped it.

This has been a product I have used for years to keeps the flies off my horses sheath area. It works pretty good for the most part, but the need to improve the way it stays over the hip area. It slides off too easily so I have to tie it with a cord to the front straps over his back.
