Although it looks to be severe, when ridden with a medium to tight curb, the mouthpiece lays flat on the bars providing a wide area of contact. Curb chain needs to be tight enough so that the mouthpiece doesn’t roll up onto it’s thin side. This mouthpiece is helpful for horses who have damaged or sensitive tongues as well as those horses that are overly anxious about bits in their mouth. Sometimes called a "cut-tongue" bit because it works well on horses that have a cut tongue. Not a severe bit if used correctly. A great bit for break away ropers!
